Cat Season: MEW's Signal and the Wen Cat

October 6, 2025

Historical post This post records events as they were reported at the time. Facts are checked against sources; nothing here is a forecast.

In October 2025, MEW — the cat coin whose story is "a cat in a dogs' world" — posted a short, mysterious message about "summoning cat season". The Wen community read it as a friendly wink between cats. This post explains who MEW is, what "cat season" means, why cats became the internet's favourite mascots long before crypto, and how two cat communities can cheer for each other without anyone selling anything.

Who MEW is

MEW ("cat in a dogs world") is a Solana memecoin launched in March 2024. Its lore is a small fable: a cat named MEW standing up to a world ruled by dog coins. It grew very quickly after launch reported and became one of the best-known cat tokens. On October 6, 2025 its account posted a short "summoning cat season" message — MEW on X — which community artists turned into the poster above.

What "cat season" means

For years the memecoin world was dominated by dogs — Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, Bonk, WIF. "Cat season" is the community's name for the moment cats got their turn: MEW, Popcat, and the Wen cat born from Meow's poem. It is a cultural mood, not a market law. Cats and dogs are friends on Solana too — Wen and Bonk released a plush together for charity and played in the same football tournament.

We removed the market-cap numbers from the original post: they change by the hour and tell you nothing about the cats.

Cats and people: 9,500 years

• Cyprus, about 9,500 years ago: a cat buried next to a person at Shillourokambos is one of the earliest signs of cats living with humans.
• Ancient Egypt: cats guarded the grain and were linked to the goddess Bastet — read Wen and the cats of ancient Egypt.
• Norse myth: the goddess Freyja rides a chariot pulled by two cats.
• Folklore everywhere: cats appear in charms, omens and stories — some lucky, some dark. The original post mentioned a cruel old Scottish rite; we leave such rites in the history books where they belong.
• The internet: from early cat photos to today's memes, cats became the web's favourite characters — the culture Wen grew from.

Cats cheering for cats

The nicest thing about the MEW post is its tone: one community greeting another. That is the healthiest side of memecoin culture — shared jokes, shared art, shared events — and it costs nobody anything. If you enjoy it, the Wen side of the story lives in Wen Media, the image stories and the quiz. Thanks to the community members who shared the moment, including @OlegT39484998 and @Centriqa.
