What "alt season" means
"Alt season" is a period when alternative coins — everything other than Bitcoin — rise faster than Bitcoin itself. People watch Bitcoin dominance, Bitcoin's share of the whole crypto market: when it falls quickly, money is flowing into other coins. The best-known alt seasons came at the end of 2017 and in early 2021; both ended sharply. "Cat season", in the MEW post, is the same idea told as a fable.
Seasons are names for what already happened. Nobody can schedule the next one, which is why "who knows" was the most honest line in the original.
Chart words, explained

| Trend line | A line drawn through past highs or lows to show a direction |
| Breakout | The price crossing such a line |
| Retest | The price returning to the line it crossed |
| EMA (9, 21 weeks) | An average of past prices that gives more weight to recent ones |
| Invalidation | The level at which the analyst admits the idea was wrong |
| Rank | A coin's position by market value — it moves every hour |
What chart analysis cannot do
- Every line is drawn by a person. Two analysts draw two different trend lines on the same chart.
- "Rules" are habits, not laws. "Breakout plus retest equals bullish" is true until it is not.
- Past rallies do not repeat on schedule. A rise after one pattern in 2024 says nothing certain about 2025.
- The most useful line is invalidation. It is the one place where an analysis admits its own limits.

What lasts through every season
