Back to the Future: a Fan's Note on the Wen Cat, Read a Year Later

It described the "Wen phenomenon", admitted that many people saw it as a joke, and dared to imagine Wen as something much bigger by 2026. It ended with five words: Let's leave a note. Meet me in the future. A year later, the almanac opens that note again — not to judge the dream, but to see which parts of it people actually built.

The Wen phenomenon is the rise of a cat-themed meme coin that captured crypto and internet culture — sassy cat memes, "wen moon" catchphrases and a hyper-engaged community that turned a joke into a cultural force. Let's leave a note. Meet me in the future. — October 15, 2025, a fan
We keep the spirit and leave out the parts that were never facts: the original mentioned "celebrity endorsements" and "play-to-earn games" without sources unverified, and spoke about market capitalisation. This almanac does not publish market talk.
Why skeptics shrug
The fan was honest about the doubts. Traditional investors dismiss meme coins as fads; next to Bitcoin they look like a niche internet joke, and "meme-driven hype without clear utility" is the most common criticism. That criticism deserves a fair answer, not an angry one — and the best answer is to show what the community actually does.
What the fan hoped for

- That the community model would grow into real use, not only trading.
- That practical tools would arrive: integrations, applications, ways to pay.
